Method & Sources

Territory shapes are drawn from historical GeoJSON polygons approximated from established reference atlases (Barrington, Shepherd, Historical Atlas of the World). Each empire has multiple phase snapshots that transition dynamically as you scrub the timeline.

This is an interpretive atlas, not a legal boundary dataset. Frontier zones, vassals, and short-lived occupations are simplified intentionally for clarity. Modern country outlines are shown as a faint reference layer only.
